Dr. Madhav Chavan and Ms. Farida Lambay founded Pratham with an aim to provide educational facilities to all the children in the slums of Mumbai. The Co-founder Dr. Madhav Chavan, a recipient of WISE prize for Education, has spent over twenty years pioneering large scale innovative programme in education in India. Co-founder Farida Lambay, an educationist and social activist, has led Pratham’s work in the area of child labour and “child at risk”. The CEO of the organization Dr. Rukmini Banerji is a trained economist and have been associated with the research and assessment efforts including Annual Education Status Report (AESR).

In FY 2021-22, KSL had made CSR Programme Expenditure payment of Rs 2.76 Crore to Pratham, which has been largely utilised.
