How to update or correct Aadhaar?

Your Aadhaar card is an important document of identity. And you are increasingly being encouraged to link it to services and other documents required for Aadhaar – be it a SIM card, a bank account, a gas connection or your PAN card etc. It is, therefore, important that the details maintained in the Aadhaar database are accurate and updated.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) provides simple and straightforward ways to update/rectify your Aadhaar card demographic details. You can correct errors in your mobile number, address, name, date of birth, email id, gender, etc. through online, offline methods.

There are three ways of updating or correcting the details provided on your Aadhaar card:

1) Update/correct Aadhaar card details online by visiting the self-service update portal (SSUP)

2) Update/correct details by visiting the nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre

3) Update/correct details through the post (There are two addresses — one in Hyderabad and the other in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh)

How to update Aadhaar card details online:

Step 1:   Go to Aadhaar’s Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) ( https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/web/guest/ssup-home#/popup )

Step 2:   Click on proceed after reading the instructions. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number

Step 3:   Type the captcha code and click on send OTP

Step 4:   You will receive an OTP on your mobile number

Step 5:   Login to your Aadhaar account with the OTP number

Step 6:   Tick mark on the address option and submit

Step 7:   Add your residential address in the proof of address section

Step 8:   Select the ‘submit update request option.

Step 9:   Click on modify if your address is to be changed

Step 10:   Select declaration and click on proceed

Step 11:   Choose the document you want to submit as proof of address for verification

Step 12:   Upload the scanned copy of your address to verify your address and submit

Step 13:   A confirmation box would appear on the screen. Read through it and click yes

Step 14:   Choose the BPO service provider to check the address and submit

Step 15:   The BPO service officer will cross-check the address proofs.

Step 16:   The officer will the details to UIDAI later

Step 17:   You will receive an acknowledgement slip, once the request is processed

Step 18:   Download your updated Aadhaar from the UIDAI website with the help of Update Request Number (URN) on the slip

How to update Aadhaar card details offline:

Step 1:   Visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre ( https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/centersearch.aspx)

Step 2:   Fill up the Aadhaar correction form

Step 3:   Carry copies of identity and address proofs along for verification

Step 4:   Submit the documents along with the form

Step 5:   You will be charged INR 25 for every visit to the enrolment centre for rectifying errors

How to update Aadhaar card through Post:

Step 1:   Go to https://uidai.gov.in/images/UpdateRequestFormV5.pdf and download ‘Aadhaar card update/correction form.’

Step 2:   Fill the necessary details

Step 3:   Attach the self-attested photocopies of identity or address proof as required for verification

Step 4:   Send the form along with the documents to the following addresses:

  1. 1. UIDAI,     Post Box No. 10,     Chhindwara,     Madhya Pradesh – 480001,     India
  2. 2. UIDAI,     Post Box No. 99,     Banjara Hills,     Hyderabad – 500034,     India

How to update your name in Aadhaar?

Step 1: Visit your nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre

Step 2:   Fill the Aadhaar correction form

Step 3:   Mention your name clearly and submit it with a copy of your identity proof

Step 4:   The enrolment officer will update your request

Step 5:   An acknowledgement slip would be provided as a confirmation

How to change mobile number in Aadhaar card?

Step 1:   Go to the Aadhaar enrolment centre

Step 2:   Fill up the update Aadhaar form

Step 3: Add all details like full name, email id, and the updated mobile number

Step 4:   Mobile phone updation requires no identity or address proofs

Step 5:   The enrolment executive will update the request

Step 6:   The enrolment officer will provide a URN on the acknowledgement slip

Step 7: Use the number to download the updated Aadhaar card from the UIDAI site

How to change the date of birth in Aadhaar:

Step 1:   Approach your nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre

Step 2:   Mention the correct date of birth while filling the Aadhaar update form

Step 3:   Provide your date of birth proof along with the form

Step 4:   The enrolment officer will take your biometrics

Step 5:   The enrolment executive will hand over an acknowledgement slip along with the URN

Step 6:   Use the URN to track the status on the UIDAI website
