How to link Aadhaar with mobile number?

You may have received a mail or an SMS from your mobile operator encouraging you to link your Aadhaar card to your mobile number. You may be wondering if it is compulsory and whether you should do it. Linking Aadhaar to your mobile number is not mandatory. The government had planned to make it compulsory and had set March 31, 2018, as the deadline for it, but the Supreme Court has indefinitely extended the deadline.

However, if you wish to link Aadhaar to number you can do so either by visiting your telecom operator’s store or outlet or via IVRS.

HOW TO LINK AADHAAR WITH MOBILE NUMBER USING IVRS:

You can link your Aadhaar to mobile number by following the below mentioned steps:

  • Step 1:   If you want to re-verify your number by linking it to Aadhaar, the process is quite effortless. Whether you are an Airtel, Jio,                Vodafone, Idea or any other telecom service user, all you need to do is call the toll-free number 14546
  • Step 2:   You will be directed to an Interactive Voice Response system (IVRS). It will verify whether you are an Indian or NRI. Press 1                to confirm your Indian nationality.
  • Step 3:   Share your 12-digit Aadhar number
  • Step 4:   Next, it will generate an OTP and send it to your mobile number.
  • Step 5:   The operator will ask your consent to pick your name, photo and date of birth from the UIDAI database.
  • Step 6:   The IVR will read out the last four digits of your mobile number. Confirm it and avoid any errors.

Visit your telecom operator’s store/retailer:

To link your Aadhaar to mobile number, you can visit the telecom operator’s store as well.

  • Step 1:   Visit the telecom store and ask for assistance from an executive
  • Step 2:   Carry a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card
  • Step 3:   Provide your mobile number to the executive
  • Step 4:   The executive will send an OTP to the mobile number that has to be linked
  • Step 5:   Provide the OTP to the executive for confirmation
  • Step 6:   Next, the executive will scan your fingerprint for authentication
  • Step 7:   You will get an SMS confirming the link from the telecom operator
  • Step 8:   Reply ‘Y’ to complete the e-KYC process
