How to check Aadhaar Status

Aadhaar is a 12-digit number that uniquely identifies its holder based on demographics and biometrics. It was launched in 2010 and is also called Unique Identification Number or UID. You can now use it as an address and identity proof and to access a wide range of services from the government and private sector.

If you don’t have an Aadhaar card, you can apply for Aadhar online or offline. When you submit your application, you will receive a 14-digit acknowledgement number. This number along with the date and time of enrolment which is mentioned in your acknowledgement is the enrolment ID or EID. You can use this to track the status of your Aadhaar card.

How to check Aadhaar status online?

Step 1:   Visit the following page on the official UIDAI site:

Step 2:   Provide your 14-digit enrolment number, and the date and time

Step 3:   Enter the security code

Step 4:   Click on ‘Check Status’ button

Step 5:   If you Aadhaar has been generated, you will get an option to download it.

Step 6: Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option

To check the status of your Aadhaar application or receive Aadhaar card over a smartphone, you will first need to verify your phone number.

Step 1:   Go to UIDAI’s website.

Step 2:   Select ‘Aadhaar Services’ that directs you to ‘Enrolment/Download e-Aadhaar Update.’

Step 3:   Go to ‘verify email/mobile’ option on the right side of the page

Step 4:   Verify your mobile number on the redirected page

Step 5:   Provide details like enrolment number, etc. after verifying the mobile number

Step 6:   A security code will flash on your screen. Enter the number and select ‘Generate Verification Code’ option

Step 7:   The code is sent to your mobile phone. Enter the code on the grey box.

Step 8:   Click on ‘verify’ to complete the process

Step 9:   Type out a message to UIDAI in the format: “UID STATUS ” and send it to 51969

Step 10:   You will receive the Aadhaar number if the card is already generated.

Step 11:   If not, you will get an SMS on the status of the Aadhaar card

How to retrieve your EID to track Aadhaar status?

If you have forgotten the enrolment number or misplaced it, use the following method to retrieve your UID or EID. To do this process, you must have a mobile phone registered with Aadhaar card.

Step 1:   Visit https://resident.uidai.gov.in/web/resident/find-uid-eid to retrieve the old enrolment number

Step 2:   Select UID option and fill details like name, mobile number, email ID and security code, and then click on send OTP number

Step 3:   Enter the OTP upon receiving it and verify

Step 4:   You will instantly receive the EID on your mobile/email ID
