How to link Aadhaar with Idea Mobile Number

It is not compulsory to
. But telecom operators encourage you to do so. One of the reasons for this is that mobile connections acquired through fake IDs are used for illegal activities. Since Aadhar includes biometric information, it is difficult to fake. Telecom operators believe that Aadhar linking could eliminate the problem of mobile phones being used for nefarious acts.

Whether you have one connection or multiple Idea connections, you can link all them to your Aadhar card. The process is free and quick.

Before you begin the process, make sure that the Idea number you wish to link to Aadhaar is registered with UIDAI and has your biometric information associated with it. If your Aadhaar has been registered with a different mobile number, the only way to link your Idea number is by visiting a store.

How to Link Aadhaar to your Idea Mobile Number Offline

  1. Step 1:   Walk into your nearest Idea store
  2. Step 2:   Provide the store assistant with your Idea number as well as a self-attested Aadhaar card
  3. Step 3:   The store assistant will send you a verification code
  4. Step 4:   Give this number to the assistant
  5. Step 5:   Provide your biometric or fingerprint to the store for confirmation
  6. Step 6:   Within 24 hours you should receive a confirmation SMS from Idea
  7. Step 7:   Reply to this message with ‘Y’ to complete the process

How to Link Aadhaar to your Idea Mobile Number through OTP

*Option available only if the number is registered with UIDAI

  1. Step 1:   Call the Idea toll free number – 14546
  2. Step 2:   Choose the option based on whether you are an Indian citizen or NRI
  3. Step 3:   Hit 1 on the keypad, to re-verify your number
  4. Step 4:   Type in your 12-digit Aadhaar number
  5. Step 5:   Press 1 to confirm
  6. Step 6:   An OTP will be sent to your number following which you will have to give Idea the consent to access your personal details like full
                  name, date of birth, and photo from UIDAI’s server
  7. Step 7:   The recorded message will read out the last 4 digits of your mobile number
  8. Step 8:   Enter the OTP received on your mobile, if the number is correct
  9. Step 9:   Press 1 to complete the process


You will receive a confirmation message once your Aadhaar has been linked.

How to Link Aadhaar to your Idea Mobile Number through IVR

*Option available only if the number is registered with UIDAI

  1. Step 1:   Dial the Idea toll free number – 12345
  2. Step 2:   Follow the instructions delivered and select the Aadhaar verification option
  3. Step 3:   Punch in your Aadhaar number twice
  4. Step 4:   Your Idea number will be linked to your Aadhaar
  5. Step 5:   You will receive an SMS confirming the same, within 24 hours


Multiple Idea numbers cannot be linked through IVR and OTP methods. You will have to go to the store to link these numbers to your Aadhaar, with the help of the store assistant.
