Movies have everything! Right from drama, action, comedy to major advice! If you delve really deep into the dialogues from some movies, you will be surprised to find that they offer a lot of insight about investments! So, let’s escape to the world of movies and learn some great investing tips!

There Is No Spoon

If you remember when the Matrix was first released, watchers were wowed by the dystopian world and the underlying philosophical message the movie conveyed. It changed our beliefs about the reality that we live in. For investors, you can relate to this epic dialogue from the movie, ‘there is no spoon’ during the time when you get carried away by the herd noise.

Investors often make decisions as per the rumors, spurious news, believing in what other traders say, etc., without analysing whether their decision is rational or irrational.

You would get a clear view of ‘there is no spoon’, concept when you look at the conversation between Neo and the spoon boy from the movie:

Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. Neo: What truth? Spoon boy: There is no spoon. Neo: There is no spoon? Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

The spoon is a metaphor for obstacles (in our lives).

This indicates that as an investor, you should choose the stocks after careful analysis and looking at the reality. Sometimes, investors tend to be underconfident of their choices and follow the herd. But, this is not the right practice! Believe in your research and stay focused on your investments.

Not just our movies, our songs too have an interesting story to tell about investments! Read on to know more

I Will Make Him An Offer He Can't Refuse

This is the best-known line from The Godfather film. As an investor, we can relate to this line as we might have come across brokers that try to sell the best stocks with manipulative lines. The stocks might seem very fashioned and attractive by their taglines, like “double your investment” or “100% return”. But, investors should not fall prey of such Ponzi schemes.

Investors should be smart to identify such false claiming schemes.

Mere Paas Maa Hai

This epic dialogue from the movie Deewar will probably be remembered for years to come. When it comes to the investing world, what matters the most is the kind of portfolio you build. While others might have a portfolio turnover in crores… gaadi hai, bangla hai, but you have those few valuable stocks that will generate wealth over a period of time. You should be confident of those stocks as you have chosen them through diligent research and understanding of the company, business, and the market.

In short, an investor will get good confidence only when he follows the right investing process.

Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahi Namumkin Hai

The adventure line from the movie DON can be related to the study of behavioural finances. As per behavioural finances, there are a certain kind of investors who have a trait of overconfidence bias. This means that investors who are overconfident about their stock selection. The dialogue ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai’ indicates such investors.

Overconfidence leads to nothing but losing out on important stocks. Also, if you believe that your stocks will give you guaranteed returns, then you are ideally mistaken! You will never find that one perfect stock that gives a guaranteed return. But, if you have carefully chosen a stock with the right fundamentals, then give it time to grow. It will reward you slowly.

Know how fundamental analysis helps in selecting the quality stock. Read here.

Bade Bade Deshon Mein Choti Choti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain

You can always ease your tension by focusing on long-term gains.

Phool To Murjha Jaate Hain Lekin Kante Daaman Thaam Lete Hain

This dialogue from Mughal-e-Azam is a classic example of how you should not get attached to loss-making investments. If you know your funds or stocks have been incurring massive losses, make sure you get rid of these at the earliest. You can always look for stocks that are doing well, rather than being a loss averse.

All Is Well

Some words can create true magic in your heart & mind, and that is how the movie 3 Idiots signified it well. All is well can be related to situations when you see your investments returns are showing short-term loses or negative returns. In such a scenario, many investors, under stress, tend to pull out their investments. Being patient is the key to dealing with your investment anxiety; be in the running for the long term to get maximm benefits from your investments!

The next time when your investment goes down, and your heart pumps faster- repeat this line- All is well!

So, watch movies not just to get your dose of entertainment but also to get some amazing advice as you proceed in your investment journey.
