How to link Aadhaar with Ration Card?

A ration card holder is entitled to subsidised food grains, oil and kerosene, and other provisions from ration shops.

A large percentage of the goods intended for the PDS is siphoned off. The problem of fake ration cards is widespread. To curb this menace, the government had proposed linking Aadhaar with ration cards. It is not mandatory but linking the two can enable the government to reduce leakages and fraud.

When you want to link Aadhaar to ration card, you must visit your nearest Public Distribution shop (PDS) shop or the ration shop with the following documents:

  • Photocopy of your Ration Card along with an original card for on-site verification.
  • Copy of bank passbook, if bank account, is not linked with Aadhaar.
  • Photocopy of Aadhaar of all the family members.
  • Photocopy of Aadhaar card of the head of the family
  • Passport size photos of the family members

You can link your Aadhaar to your ration card by following the below mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit your nearest PDS shop or the ration shop with the required documents.

Step 2: In case your bank account is not linked with Aadhaar card, submit a copy of your bank passbook as well.

Step 3: Submit a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar card.

Step 4: The representative available at the PDS shop will ask you to put your finger on the biometric machine for first time Aadhaar authentication.

Step 5: Once the documents are received by the government department, you will receive a notification via SMS or email regarding the same.

Step 6: Post the successful linking of both documents; you will receive SMS on your Aadhaar registered mobile number.

The benefits of linking Aadhaar to ration card are as follows:

  • Reports claim that a massive chunk of subsidised goods provided by the government through the PDS is siphoned off into the black market. This deprives the actual beneficiaries of their rights. To stop any fraudulent activities, it is essential to link the Aadhaar to ration card.

  • The Aadhaar biometrics distribution system enables the PDS to identify the genuine beneficiaries.

  • Aadhaar system will help eliminate the corrupt middlemen in the distribution network
