National Securities Depository Company background
National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) is a SEBI-registered central securities depository with its registered office at Naman Chambers, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Its depository operations began in 1996. Under a scheme of arrangement in 2012, the depository business was separated from Protean eGov Technologies (formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited), resulting in the incorporation of NSDL Depository Limited on April 27, 2012. Post its IPO in July 2025, NSDL is now a publicly listed company on both NSE and BSE (544467). Its core business involves dematerialisation, transfer and settlement of securities, depository services, and related investor and issuer services.
