New Pre-Open Session for Futures Contracts Effective 8th December 2025
NSE and BSE are introducing a Pre-Open Session for Stock & Index Futures effective 8th December 2025. Please take note of the timings and key guidelines:
Pre-Open Session Timings & Actions :

9:00 AM – 9:08 AM | Allowed: Order entry, modification & cancellation for eligible Stock & Index Futures. Not Allowed: Options orders (including AMO) |
9:08 AM – 9:13 AM | System will match pre-open orders to discover the open price. AMO orders can be placed in all scrips. |
9:12 AM – 9:15 AM | Transition to continuous trading session. |
📌 Important: Options orders will not be allowed between 8:58 AM – 9:08 AM.
Further Details
• Eligible Contracts:
– Current Month Futures
– Next Month Futures (only during the last 5 days before current month expiry)
• Excluded Contracts:
Orders in non-eligible contracts—Options, Spread Orders, Far Month Futures—will be rejected during the session.
• Allowed Order Types:
Only Limit and Market orders are permitted.
SL and IOC orders are not allowed.
• Margin Policy:
Full margin validation will apply. Orders will be processed only if sufficient margin is available.

Placing Orders Before 9:00 AM
Options: Since options are excluded from the pre-open session, these remain as AMOs. They will be sent to the normal market when it opens at 9:15 AM.
Example: You place a RELIANCE 2800 Call Option buy order at 8:30 AM.
Result: The system holds this order and sends it to the exchange at 9:15 AM.
Futures (New Change): Futures are now eligible for pre-open. AMOs placed before 9 AM will now participate in the pre-open auction.
Example: You place a NIFTY December Future buy order at 8:30 AM.
Result: The system sends this order to the exchange at 9:00 AM to participate in the preopen session. Order modification and cancellation is also allowed for these orders. -
Placing Orders Between 09:00 AM – 09:08 AM
Futures: You can actively trade. Orders are placed instantly in the Pre-Open session for matching.
Example: You place a BANKNIFTY 25 DEC FUT order at 9:02 AM. It is accepted immediately for matching.
Options: Since options are not eligible for pre-open, the system will reject these orders during this specific window.
Example: You try to buy TATASTEEL 160 PE at 9:05 AM. The order is rejected.
- Placing Orders From 9:08 AM Onwards
Once the pre-open order entry phase ends (approx. 9:08 AM), the window for pre-open participation closes.
Futures & Options (All Segments): Any order placed during this window is treated as an AMO for the normal market.
Example: You place orders for both NIFTY Futures and RELIANCE Call Options at 9:10 AM.
Result: Both orders are queued and sent to the exchange at 9:15 AM when the normal market opens.
