I hold stocks of a company that issued dividends, how and when will I get the dividends?

To be eligible, you need to purchase the stocks before the ex-date. Note that you will be eligible for dividends even if you have sold the stocks on ex-date.

You can find out more details about the ex-date and record date.

When you qualify for dividends, you will get the dividends directly in your bank account that is linked with your Kotak Securities account on the dividend payment date. The date for dividend payment is usually 30 to 45 days after the record date.

If you don’t receive the dividends on or after the dividend payment date even though you qualify for it, then you need to get in touch with the registrar of the respective company.

You can look up the contact information of the company registrar on the NSE website under the section called “Company Directory” and on the BSE website under the section called “Corp Information.”

On the other hand, if you have bought the stocks on or post the ex-date, then you will be ineligible for the dividends.
