Promoted by K T Chettiar, VTM Limited(Formerly known Virudhunagar Textile Mills Limited), was established in 1946 with the founding principles of setting standards in weaving by ensuring that the best of weaving technology was always available. The Company name was changed from Virudhunagar Textile Mills Limited to VTM Limited on 27 April, 2006. Today, the Company is wellestablished with unique capabilities that allows to cater to exotic constructions in weaving. The Company has expanded the capabilities to include special weaves and combinations. 255 stateoftheart looms have been installed in the manufacturing unit. 80 Sulzer machines, 6 Rapier leno looms, 163 Air jets and 6 Jacquard machines work to produce 1.7 million meters of fabric every month. The Companys plant is located in Virudhunagar. Even though it is not designated as an exportoriented mill, 9093% of the production is exported. VTML has only one subsidiary Colour Yarn Ltd.The company has installed 289 looms to manufacture a range of grey fabrics from 90 cm width to 330 cm width. Some of the varieties produced by VTML are cambric, voile, poplin, pin point oxford, satin, chambray, drill, oxford weave, grey sheeting, etc. The mill is equipped with state of the art machineries like 60 airjet weaving machines, besides 174 Lakshmi Ruti C looms of various widths. During 199495, VTML issued bonus shares in the ratio 5:1. In 200001 28 Shuttle Looms have been replaced looms at a cost of Rs.855 crores and this was financed through internal accruals. To make it more competitive in both International and Domestic markets,the Company has proposed to modernise its plant machinery under TUFS at an estimated cost of Rs.10 crores. The modernisation scheme if implemented will yield a high value in its product mixture.In 202122, the Company established a Garment unit with 57 stitching machines with ETON line for promoting exports in the international Home Textiles market. In 2023, it installed Solar Power Plant of 300KW capacity costing Rs. 2.1 Crores. It capitalised on the growing dominance of India and Indian cotton in the world markets and its emergence as a premier fabric and garment manufacturing destination.A New Boiler with 2.5 Ton capacity costing Rs 89.15 lakhs was put to use in place of the existing Boiler in FY 2024. Fabric Inspection Machines were installed in the Home Textiles Unit during the year. In 2025, Company has additionally purchased 2 wider width inspection machines with double side inspection facility for the finished fabric inspection costing Rs 10 lakhs and installed in the garment unit. Further, it has installed a 1.76 MW Solar Power Plant at Ottapidaram Village costing Rs 6.93 Crore in 2025.
