Share Market Holidays 2026

The Indian stock market, which includes the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), follows a set calendar of holidays when trading is suspended. These Share Market Holidays provide traders and investors with a brief respite from daily activities, offering a chance to review strategies, reflect on market trends, or simply take a pause.

Trading holidays are usually designated for national, cultural, or religious occasions, such as Independence Day, Diwali, and Christmas. On these days, all trading activities in equity, equity derivatives, and commodities markets are halted. While the market is closed, global events or other external factors can still impact market sentiment. Hence, it’s crucial to stay informed, as market trends may shift when trading resumes.

The trading schedule runs from Monday to Friday, 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the markets remaining closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Staying updated on the NSE holidays or the holiday list of the National Stock Exchange helps you plan your investments better and avoid potential disruptions in your trading strategies.

Muhurat Trading

Muhurat Trading is a special, auspicious trading session held during Diwali, one of India’s most cherished festivals. This one-hour trading window is considered an ideal time to invest, symbolising prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead. Many traders and investors participate in this session as a traditional practice, blending culture with finance.

For 2026, the Muhurat Trading session will be held on November 8, offering market participants a unique opportunity to engage in this time-honoured tradition and celebrate new beginnings.
