Updates to help you make informed trading decisions.
Understand Your Used Margin with a Detailed Breakdown
We’re introducing a Used Margin Breakdown feature to give you better visibility into how your margin is allocated across different segments and product types. This will make it easier for you to track where your funds are being utilised, helping you manage your trades with more clarity.
What’s Changing?
Previously, you could see only the total used margin without a clear breakdown. Now, with this update, you can view the detailed allocation of your margin across different trading segments and its components. Note that the margin calculation itself remains unchanged and you will now be able to view the breakdown of your Used Margin.
How the Used Margin Breakdown Works
On clicking Used Margin, you will now see a categorized breakdown, helping you understand how your margin is blocked:
1. Stocks – Margin used for:
- CNC
- MIS
- Pay Later (MTF)
- NRML
- Margin for OFS and SGB

2. F&O (Futures & Options) – Includes:
- SPAN Margin
- Exposure Margin
- Delivery Margin
- Option Premium

**3. Margin from Shares Sold Today - This refers to the margin benefit made available to you when you sell shares from your holdings.
4. Cash Blocked for Payout
- Cash that is blocked when a payout is requested during market hours
5. Realized & Unrealized Profit/Loss
- Realized P&L – Profit/loss from CNC trades that have been squared off
- Unrealized P&L – Profit/loss on open CNC positions that are yet to be settled
6. Other Used Margin
Some of you may see a field called "Other Used Margin", which can include:
- Unrealized MTF loss
- Realized CNC loss
- Margin used for cover/bracket orders
- Margin blocked for commodities like tender margin and special margin
- Option premium credit received
- Margin blocked for position conversion
7. Total Used Margin
- The total margin blocked during the day for all trading activities.
Things to Keep in Mind
- You may not see all fields at all times. Only the fields applicable to your trades at that moment will be visible.
- This update is aimed at simplifying your funds page, making margin allocation more transparent.
