Why are DP Charges charged?

Demat transactions and AMC charges are part of DP charges which are related to your Demat account. They are levied as per the DP tariff sheet agreed with you as a user/ client of Kotak Securities and accordingly the same is visible in your ledger as a debit. You may also note that these charges include charges levied by Depositories (NSDL / CDSL).
